Keywords are the Key!

This week in class was so insightful and actually a lot of fun! Setting up and publishing your website is just the beginning. There is so much more that needs to be done in order to get discovered, to get people to come to your website, and to shoots sales through the roofs. A big way to do that is through ads and campaigns.  When I was studying about keywords and how to come up with the best ones possible, there were a few things that stuck out to me. For instance, keywords are usually most successful when they are in short phrases. They need to be relevant to what your business is offering but also broad enough to attract a large number of individuals to your site. Keyword popularity is important as well! You want to choose keywords that people are actually going to use and search for! Or how else are they going to stumble across your website?? There is a lot of resources on the internet and videos that teach how to be most effective with your keywords and ads. I learned a ...

ALL THE LEGAL STUFF

Wow. I never fully understood how much goes into making and running a business. To be honest, I kinda miss my days of just selling lemonade and not having to fill out different forms for taxes and licenses. However, so much more of a profit can be made when doing these things and running a successful business.  The big thing I learned this week was to research and understand what type of business you're running so that you know exactly all of the legal stuff you need to do in order to be in compliance with where you live. It is important to follow the law and to be respectful to the different regulations set by the government. Part of this is paying taxes and obtaining any special licenses needed, if any. Thankfully, there are a bountiful of resources online for all of us to read so we can learn more about what is required with starting a business.  I'm a little overwhelmed right now and I feel like most of this stuff is going over my head because it all is so new and fo...

IT'S TIME TO PAY, PAL

Alright so this week in class we learned about some important stuff...money. We need it in order to grow our businesses and to become more successful. Depending on our revenue, we can see whether our business is successful or if we are just losing more than we are gaining. Figuring out how to best charge customers on your site is vital so that you website can generate more growth.  The big takeaway from this week is to study different payment methods!! I spent a lot of time exploring PayPal and what it has to offer to my business. I even attempted (not sure if I even did it right but it's all apart of the learning process!!) to create my own button and code it. There was a lot of information on PayPal and how it works and all of the different settings you can change to personalize it and make it more secure. These were very interesting and helpful when trying to decide whether this is the best option for me or not. However, the debate on what payment method to use is still in...

Choices...Choices....And Some More Choices.

Last week's post was all about choices. This week is all about...choices as well!! I guess that's what makes business and marketing so interesting. With so many choices and options out there, there are countless possibilities of what to do. Some business are more successful than others because they made better and smarter choices. Those business who did not do so well can restart and try new combinations to in order to produce a better outcome.   The biggest thing I learned this week was that there are a TON of factors that go into choosing a site builder and a web host. There are sooo many options out there with different prices, benefits, and contract lengths. The key is finding the right one for you and your business. What's right for one business may not be right for another. But with countless site builders and web hosts to choose from, there is always something out there for everyone. Research on your part is vital so that you are well informed when making decisions. ...

Apples and Oranges

Okay I'm going to be completely honest by saying that I had no idea there were soooo many decisions to be made when starting a business. I mean I understood there was a lot...I just didn't understand what A LOT actually meant! And with all of these decisions comes many options to choose from. So let's just say that if you're an indecisive person, this isn't your field of work!! Something we talked a lot about in class this week was wholesale distributors (basically person or company who sells stuff at a low price in large quantities to retailers). These are a vital part of starting not all but many online business and of course, there are many wholesale distributors out there! The important thing is not picking the best one out there because the internet tells you it's the best, but rather doing your own research and digging around to find the best one out there for YOU and YOUR product! Understanding things like the wholesaler's distribution channel, policy...
